HYDRODESULFURIZATION OF DIESEL OIL WITH EURO-II SPECIFICATIONS

The importance of the Diesel fuel for meeting the energy demands needs no explanation. In the past 100 years or so, diesel fuel has become increasingly important to the human life. Due to increase in the number of vehicles, the environmental problems have become of immense concern for the whole world. Ministry of Petroleum Pakistan imposed Euro-II specifications for diesel oil to meet the environmental regulations. Developed countries had introduced Euro-III and Euro-IV diesel, if auto manufacturers in Pakistan want to export vehicles, we need to go to Euro-II, -III and -IV to capture the world market. There is great need to produce such fuels which cause less pollution and hence there is great need to produce Euro-II Diesel Oil. Hydrodesulfurization (HDS) is a catalytic chemical process widely used to remove sulfur from diesel fuel. It uses hydrogen to remove sulfur from sulfur containing compounds in the form of hydrogen sulfide gas. The very low sulfur levels required in diesel oil to meet environmental standards can only be achieved by HDS as it reduces sulfur contents to ppms. In this report a plant having capacity 20,000 bbl/day has been designed for the removal of sulfur from diesel oil by Hydrodesulfurization (HDS) process. In the reactor Hydrodesulfurization reactions occurring all are exothermic in nature and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is produced. The hydrogen sulfide (H2S) produced in the reactor is separated in the separator from the oil and is absorbed in the diethanol amine while hydrogen recovered is recycled back. In the stripper, light gases are removed from the oil and are sending in the naphtha treating unit. Desulfurized is obtained from the bottom of the stripper. For the safety, maintenance and the product optimization, the necessary process control loops are introduced on the
