My name is Engr. Ahad Nazir. I am a Project Management Specialist working currently as Head, Centre for Private Sector Engagement at Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). With a diverse background of experience in private and public sector, I have served Project Management related positions at international corporate giants, including China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), KSB Pumps Co. Ltd., and Orient Energy Systems (Pvt) Ltd. Along-with formal job commitments, I remained on consultancy assignments with several large and renowned private sector entities, including Descon Engineering Ltd., Engro Group, Gamesa Pakistan Wind Power, SUMEC, BGP Pakistan, and Fauji Foundation. Although I have a broad spectrum of specialist areas, I am particularly interested in renewable energy systems. My energy sector footprint of Designing, Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning is of around 2470 MW of Powerplants in both Independent Power Producers and Captive Power mode.
I have expertise in Stakeholder Engagement, Project Management, Reporting, Application Engineering, Business Development, Secondary Designing, Technical and Financial Feasibility development, Project Planning, Project Scheduling, Project Budgeting, Project Risk Management, Project Quality Management, Active Execution, Team Building, Site Management (Financial and Administration), Project Management, Monitoring, Evaluation and Controlling, and Closing of Project, including effective management of cost reduction through reduced cost of punch list items. I have been an active part of forums led by the Government of Pakistan to discuss tariff revisions, tariff feasibility, and other aspects of energy sector.
I did my Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from National University of Science and Technology, College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Later, I completed my Master of Science in Project Management from Bahria University. I also hold both the globally accepted project management certifications, i.e. Project Management Professional (PMP) from Project Management Institute (PMI), USA and PRINCE 2 Practitioner from Axelos, UK. I have also attained an international certificate in International Supply Chain Management from United Nations International Trade Centre with distinction.
In my career spanning around 12 years, I have completed projects worth around Rs. 10 billion, with the necessary knowledge and experience of relevant expertise of business development, industrial economics and private sector engagement. I also have expertise of research and advocacy around various socio-economic policy including taxation reforms, energy sector reforms, trade reforms, social sector development through the involvement of private sector through CSR and Social Enterprises, and inclusion of women in economic growth and development. Additionally, I am part of several forums as mentor, guest lecturer, trainer and judge for various entrepreneurship enabling ventures in Pakistan. In addition, I am a certified tutor at the Social Enterprise Academy, UK. Furthermore, I am an experienced and certified trainer in the fields of project management, project engineering, computer aided design engineering, MS project, and Primavera P6. I conduct regular training sessions and also teaches in several of the post graduate programmes of public sector universities in Islamabad. At the moment, I have several students carrying out research in comparison with various conventional and modern project management techniques.
I am currently team-lead for the following economic reforms programmes at SDPI.
a. A structured and iterative Public Private Dialogue (PPD)
b. Social and Creative Enterprise Development under Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies (DICE) Program supported by British Council-Pakistan and Social Enterprise-UK,
c. Trade Reforms Program led by World Bank Group Pakistan Trade Economics Division.

Project Coordinator/Head Centre for Private Sector Engagement
I am the head of the Centre for Private Sector Engagement at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). The main areas of focus of my work here includes action research and advocacy of the work being carried out by SDPI in the domains of Social Entrepreneurship, Global Value Chain, Trade Economics, Energy, Fiscal Policy, and Charter of Economy. My prime focus of work is to help develop private sector oriented, enabling policy frameworks. I work in close coordination with the Government of Pakistan including the Ministry of Finance, Commerce, Federal Board of Revenue, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Competition Commission of Pakistan, Ministry of Industries and Production, Board of Investment, relevant Provincial Government department and the State Bank of Pakistan. I also work in close liaison with the various business associations. Additionally, I am involved as mentor and judge at the various national business idea competitions in Pakistan including Hult Prize, Enterprise Challenge Pakistan, FICS NUST and Preston Entrepreneur Challenge.
