Design and Development of desiccant based High-capacity Dew-Point Indirect

<div><p>With the increase in cooling demand day by day, there is an increase in energy requirements. The challenge is to meet the exponentially increasing demands of energy to ensure proper thermal comfort. With the increase in global temperature, space cooling is not a luxury anymore but has become a necessity of life. Conventional air conditioners and air coolers have high power consumption, and the air conditioner systems are not sustainable for the environment. Not only that, but they add humidity to the product air and increase humidity in the environment which is a big problem to ensure thermal comfort. Dew-Point indirect evaporative cooling can achieve sub-wet bulb temperatures without adding humidity content to the product air. But it can’t deal with the already present humidity in the air. To tackle this issue, we designed an effective dehumidification bed using Silica gel coating to provide a suitable solution for moisture removal. The system does not add humidity to the product air as well as remove the already present humidity in the ambient air. The developed mathematical model was implemented and solved using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The model analyzed the temperature profiles of the system's dry channels, considering variations in ambient air temperature, fixed air velocity, and water flow rates in the wet channels. The simulation results revealed that the cooler achieved significant temperature reductions with minimal energy consumption compared to conventional air conditioning systems. The system effectively lowered the inlet air temperature by up to 22℃, providing a cooling capacity of 3.699 kW and a coefficient of performance of 27.4 under ambient conditions of an inlet temperature (Tin) of 44℃, air velocity of 6.5 m/s, and water temperature of 16℃. Additionally, we designed a bigger system of up to 500 CFMs to compete for the performance of AC.</p></div>
