I am Muhammad Abu Bakar currently working as an Epidemiologist and Biostatistician in Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore, Pakistan.
I have completed my Master's degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (specialized in Infectious diseases) from Wits School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in 2017. Prior to my Master's, I did my undergraduate degree in Health Systems Management.
Before starting my recent degree I worked as Research Assistant/Hospital Administrator in Cheema Heart and General Hospital, Pakistan. My job was to collect and analyze data for Patient safety. I also assisted the IT department to collect relevant data for patients, classify data based on diagnosis, and prepare recommendations for better day-to-day product quality.
Before working with Cheema Heart and General Hospital, Pakistan, I was exposed to real world experience during my undergraduate degree. I had to do my internship as the requirement for my degree during the year 2011. During my internship program, I worked with a team consisting of professionals including medical doctors, health professionals, and specialists of epidemics studies. We were asked to prepare reports for Dengue fever, its causes, its effects on the community, and recommendations for future preventions. In our research (from older epidemic data) we found that the prime causes of several deaths were due to misdiagnosis, late treatment and lack of awareness in the local community. In this report, we recommended that there must be public awareness campaigns to educate people about the disease and its precautions. I enjoyed studying and analysing epidemics data during this work experience.
My background studies are also aligned with this area of work. I have done my Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) specializing in Health Systems Management. I have further extended my knowledge during my Master's degree. It enables me to do adequate research in the field of medical sciences.

Research Title: Determinants of childhood malaria morbidity in Rwanda 2010: a spatial cross sectional survey study
Research Brief: The aim of this study is to determine malaria morbidity factors in children and the associated factors in Rwanda 2013, adjusting these by spatial random effects:
o Describe the prevalence and spatial distribution of malaria morbidity in children under five years of age in Rwanda in 2013 with no covariates.
o Identify non spatially adjusted child level factors associated with malaria morbidity in Rwanda 2013.
o Identify household level factors associated with malaria morbidity in Rwanda 2013 adjusting for spatial random effects.
