IoT & WSNs Based Smart Catastrophe System For Factories

Abstract—Sudden accidents in factories that cause huge damage to human life and property is a serious problem. In recent years accidents due to catastrophic failures in factories took thousands of lives and caused massive destruction of property. There is no authentic system which minimizes such catastrophes from factories. In order to overcome such catastrophe a reliable system based on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and Internet of Things (IoT) is proposed to monitor them. In this project, the motive is to propose smart catastrophic monitoring system for factory which monitors catastrophe by disseminating information inside the factory and nearby places (i.e. Residential Areas, Schools etc.). This system does not only monitor catastrophe inside the factory as well as generate alerts at the same instant. This system, at first generates alert by, updating the catastrophe information on the display at the emergency center of the factory. Secondly, notifications are send on smart phones using the Android application (B4A) for authenticated users via web page (ThingSpeak), finally, short messages are send via GSM module. The proposed system is firstly tested within normal environment, secondly, with high intensity of fire, thirdly when intensity of fire is kept low and finally when the fire is extinguished and smoke level is increased. It is evident from the graphs that the readings are not only continuously updated at the display (receiver node) placed at the emergency center within the factory, but on the web page (ThingSpeak) as well and then generate notification via android application to authenticated users. Graphs taken under different environments also show that the alarms are generated as soon as the readings cross threshold levels and ultimately buzzer starts to alarm, indicates catastrophe. To the best of our knowledge, no such system is available in market which is generating alerts using multiple ways, hence makes the propose system more authenticated.
