Microstructural and Mechanical characterization of dissimilar welded joint

<p>The duplex stainless steels are attractive for applications in the chemical industries and other sectors due to their properties. The dissimilar welds are widely used in the industries for economical reason. However, dissimilar material joining is generally more challenging than that of similar materials, due to various factors such as the differences in chemical compositions and the physical and mechanical properties of the base metals welded.</p> <p>In this current study, dissimilar metals weld between Duplex stainless steel (2205) and Austenitic stainless steel 304 were produced by employing tungsten inert gas process for the root and hot pass and shielded metal arc welding process for the filler and capping passes, using duplex filler metal (E2209) at different passes.</p> <p>The resultant welded joints are characterized by the evolution of the microstructure and phase transformations along the welded joint and also the mechanical properties of dissimilar welded joint at different passes.</p>
