Performed duties as an intern while observing the processes and working of the following departments
MARKING & CUTTING SHOP:
In marking and cutting we have following machines
1. Numerical Control (NC) Machine
2. Shearing and Punching Machine
3. Shearing Machine
4. Rolling Machine
FABRICATION SHOP
Following are the types of welding used in fabrication shop.
1. Sheet Metal Arc Welding
2. Gas Metal Arc Welding
3. TIG Welding
FOUNDRY
The KSEW’s foundry have five department:
1. Pattern Making
2. Molding Section
3. Melting Section
4. Casting
5. Machining
PATTERN MAKING:
There are four types of pattern have to make in pattern making section.
1. Solid Pattern
2. Sweep Pattern
3. Skeleton Pattern
4. Split Pattern
MOLDING SECTION:
The mold can be formed by using sand and sodium silicate. We can make the mixture of silica sand with sodium silicate.
MELTING SECTION:
There are two types of furnaces used in foundry.
1. Cupola Furnace
2. Induction Furnace
Cupola Furnace:
Cupola Furnace having a capacity of 10 ton and it can be used for melting of iron.
Induction Furnace:
This furnace is also known as a holding furnace.
In KSEW we have two induction furnaces having different capacities. One having capacity of 5 ton and the other one having a capacity of 1.5 Ton.
CASTING:
After melting we can pour the molten material into the mold with the help of ladle. In KSEW the main product of casting is “rollers of sugar mill”.
Machining:
After casting of sugar mill roller we can apply machining for our required diameter.
In machine shop wee have:
1. Lath Machine
2. Milling Machine
QC AND NDT:
In shipyard we use 5 techniques for QC&NDT i.e
1 Visual Inspection
2 Die Penetrant Test (DPT)
3 Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
4 Radiological Testing (RT)
5 Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
PLATING SHOP
In the plating shop the most common process is electroplating
DRY BLAST
It is the process in which we removed rust from the material by bombard
Performed duties as an intern while observing the processes and working of the following departments
1. Design Office:
The main objective here is to make parts such as gears, transmissions for locomotives and gas meters. Apart from these, milling and lathe machine parts are also manufactured here.
2. Forging shop:
Upon survey we came to know the following things here:
• Dies are used for forging
• Temperature should be increased 100 C greater than the required temperature because of the time interval of the 3 operations to be performed.
• Shearing of bar rod depends upon materials.
Material being used:
• Hardening steel
• Case hardening steel
• 8620
• 19CN5
• 20MnCr5
• 35Cr4
• 16MnCr5
3. Material Testing Department:
The testing facilities provide here are Chemical testing, Mechanical testing & Physical tests.
The main properties checked in these tests are as follows:
1. Mechanical Testing; Hardness, Impact resistance, Tensile strength.
2. Chemical Testing; Weight analysis, Spectrometer
3. Physical Testing; Destructive and Non-destructive testing.
Destructive Testing:
In Destructive testing, we actually do Metallography on our sample to check its various properties.
Chemical Testing:
In chemical testing lab, the composition of a material is checked by by weight analysis, Spectrometer.
Mechanical Testing:
In mechanical testing lab, the hardness of a material is checked by Rockwell test or Brinell Test. for NDT, MPI is done for steels and LPI is used for non ferrous.
4. Heat Treatment of Products:
Here the effects of heat treatment on a material were shown and discussed.
5. Die-Casting:
The die-casting part being made here include Honda and several other bikes’ rear panels, front panels, brake-shoes and wheel discs. All these parts are made up of AC7 (Aluminum) while some parts made up of Brass were also manufactured here, for Suzuki.
6. Sheet Metal Working:
Processing of metal sheets are performed here.
Procon Engineering (PVT.) LTD. is a vendor company. It produces seats and different automotive parts of various OEM companies. Some major customers of PEL are Indus Motor Company LTD, Honda Atlas Cars (PAK) LTD, Pak Suzuki Motors LTD etc. In it i performed duties as an intern while observing the processes and working of the following departments
• Quality Assurance
It is used for maintaining the quality standards of the manufactured products
The following machines are in the Quality Assurance Department Lab i.e.
Welding Penetration

• Heavy Press Shop/ Press Shop
There are three types of Press machines in Procon.
1. Mechanical Press
2. Hydraulic Press
3. Pneumatic Press
• Welding Shop
The type of welding processes include
1. Spot welding
2. TIG welding
3. But welding
4. CO2/Gas welding
• Molding:
In molding shop a machine is used to pour two liquid chemicals Polyol and ISO in a die which are stored in a tank then the die is heated in an oven then it forms the desired shape and then it is taken out by blowing air pressure.
• Vacuum Forming:
Material used: Marlex Blow, Black Pigments for HDPE (High density polyethene) sheet, Chemical EVA Flex.
Products such as Engine Undercover and Fender Liner are made in the Vacuum forming department.
