IRC has been working in Pakistan for over 40 years, and manages and delivers large, complex programs to meet the needs in health, education, protection, environmental health, and livelihoods for displaced, poor and disaster affected communities. IRC works in partnership with local government and non-governmental organizations and currently works in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan, Sindh, and Punjab provinces.

Scope of work:

Social Mobilizers will work under the guidance and direct supervision of the Project Protection Manager. S/he will be responsible for implementing community engagement activities for communities’ access to the services, risk mitigation activities, and prevention work. This individual will be engaging community leaders on acceptance and knowledge of the local protection issues and mapping of available accessible protection services while conducting community discussions and action plans which engage men, boys, girls, and women to improve knowledge on services for people of concerns and how to reduce harm.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Through regular, daily, community outreach paired with other team members, build, and maintain relationships with communities, including local leaders, different groups, and stakeholders.
  • Form Community Based Protection Committees (CBPCs) after conducting broad-based community meetings (BBCM) ensuring meaningful representation from all community groups.
  • Establish and strengthen a community-based support mechanism through facilitating CBPCs.
  • Strengthening capacities of the CBPCs by organizing training and refresher sessions in the targeted communities.
  • Organize information and awareness sessions on protection with women and girls, men, and boys in the community to disseminate information.
  • Support CBPCs to conduct community protection risk assessments using the participatory rural appraisal (PRA) tools.
  • Service mapping for safety and protection; improving communities’ knowledge on the referral pathway.
  • Facilitate access, acceptance by the community of IRC teams as well as its activities by the community.
  • Participate in the preparation and organization of protection related sessions to be held in the community for community volunteers, focal points, and/or beneficiaries.
  • Establish and strengthen community support networks capacities to plan and carry out their action plans, ensure that the community does what it planned to do and monitor community progress frequently.
  • Identification and training of Community Outreach Volunteers from the targeted local communities.
  • Complete attendance sheets for relevant activities and contribute to monthly activity reports, according to guidance provided by the Protection Project Manager.
  • Maintain positive coordination and relationships with staff.
  • Any other duty may be assigned by the supervisor.

  • External Contacts: Communities, Service Providers

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, social work or other relevant/ related studies.
  • Minimum 02 Years of experience of working in social mobilization, preferably in Protection projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Understands and speaks local languages fluently, ability to speak and write English.
  • Demonstrated experience with community work, community mobilization and engagement.
  • Excellent listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with communities of different ages, background, and diversity.
  • Have a good presentation and a respectful attitude towards beneficiaries, local authorities, community leaders, women, adolescent girls, colleagues, and superiors.
  • Knowledge of other local languages of the community, as well as of the cultures and traditions of the community would be an asset.
  • The ability to keep records and write simple and basic reports of activities would be an added advantage.
  • Ability to discuss sensitive issues with respect and empathy.
  • Understand the survivor centered approach and service referrals.
  • Be flexible; be able to work in a team, sometimes under pressure and often in an unstable security environment.
  • Have a sense of organization and a strong ability to manage time.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Word/ Excel.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Language Skills:

  • Good written and spoken Urdu/ English skills.
  • Due to the nature of work, local language is desirable.
